Hello there!
My name is Bea and I have been doing work experience at Somer Valley Rediscovered for the past fortnight as part of the Prince’s Trust Team Program. During the past two weeks, I have predominantly been under the dutiful wing of Phoebe Webster who is the Project Officer at Somer Valley Rediscovered. I have found this experience to not only be completely eye-opening to the world of green and social projects but has also been transformative to my character as a whole; getting into nature practically every day by participating in a variety of activities such as Nordic walking, bird watching, habitat management and forest bathing which is essentially ‘soaking in’ different sensory aspects, like what you see and hear, of the forest you’re in.
This envelopment in nature has transferred its effortless ability to grow onto me and I feel as though I’m a better person out of it. I found aiding the local community and environment particularly rewarding, achieving this via events planning such as well-being walks and habitat management conservation, like scrub management.
If you have ever considered volunteering, I will wholeheartedly recommend Somer Valley Rediscovered if you get the chance.
