Somer Valley Rediscovered Partnership Chair

 The search is on for a new chair who is passionate about the environment and keen to lead the Somer Valley Rediscovered Partnership.

Somer Valley Rediscovered Partnership aims to improve the natural environment and connect the Somer Valley communities to the local wildlife, helping to boost people’s wellbeing through better access and connections to nature. The partnership was established in 2020 and now includes over 15 partners including Bath & North East Somerset Council, Wessex Water, Natural England, University of Bath and Bristol Avon Rivers Trust.

The new chair will represent the partnership at a high level, making connections and seeking new opportunities to expand its work, as well as chairing the quarterly meetings. The role is voluntary and will play a key role in helping to facilitate partnership action and  be a positive ambassador for co-developing the Somer Valley Rediscovered programme and activities.

Find a volunteer opportunity

Join us and help Somer Valley Rediscovered conserve this beautiful landscape, steeped in heritage and nature.

Volunteering with us is a chance for people in the Somer Valley to improve access and connect people to nature, supporting and enabling positive local action and improving health and wellbeing.  Some of the activities we will be offering include land management, habitat surveying, and public engagement.

We give volunteers the training and support they need and encourage new skill development. Together we can make a real difference in recovering nature and connecting people to the Somer Valley.

Habitat Management Volunteer

Do you want to assist with practical conservation activities to conserve and restore the grasslands and woodlands of the local area and increase the biodiversity of our green spaces?

By volunteering with Somer Valley Rediscovered as a Habitat Management volunteer you will be supporting work to improve local hedgerows, restore grasslands and help to manage and promote habitat connectivity. You’ll get involved with activities linked to:

  • Grassland restoration
  • Scrub management
  • Establishing a more diverse woodland
  • Increasing biodiversity across the Somer Valley

Volunteer sessions will be starting in mid December 2023. Weekly sessions will take place at one of our 5 green spaces on a Tuesday or Wednesday starting at 10.30am.

Nature Watch Volunteer

Become a Naturewatch volunteer to enjoy and learn about Somer Valley’s wildlife through hands on surveying.

We are recruiting a team of volunteers to help with species and habitat monitoring with a particular focus on…

  • Butterfly Monitoring
  • Grassland Monitoring

River Detective - Flood Watch

Get involved in this citizen science project where you will be helping Bristol Avon Rivers Trust (BART) and Somer Valley Rediscovered to monitor the health of our local rivers and helping to protect and enhance them for the benefit of both people and wildlife. Volunteers will receive full training.

Community Events Volunteer

Join us as a Community Events volunteer and inspire people to engage with, enjoy and learn about Somer Valley’s wildlife through hands on activities and events.

We are recruiting a team of volunteers to help with events from summer 2023 onwards.

If you enjoy talking to people and bringing your enthusiasm for nature and the Somer Valley to a wide range of audiences, then this is for you. Our events are fun and informal.
