SUMMARY:People and Landscape Course
DESCRIPTION:Discover the Somer Valley through inclusive outdoor learning that invites you to connect with nature\, build community\, and explore your personal growth. This programme is designed to be playful\, supportive\, and accessible to all\, encouraging meaningful experiences in the outdoors. \nYou will be someone who lives/ works/ has connections in or near the Somer Valley in B&NES and interested in inviting nature more into your life and/ or that of those around you. There is no expectation of prior skill or training\, and the course will be offered as a non-traditional learning. Using experiential methods with discussions\, this is a playful and curious exploration of connecting with people and the living world. As part of this we will get to know the plants\, animals and fungi around us\, the stories that humans have woven and continue to weave within this diversity of life. \nWe will spend time in and around the green spaces of the Somer Valley project and look at how people and organisations currently interact with the living world around us. There will be practices and prompts to help stimulate an imaginative vision of the future. Plus practical information and tips to help develop ideas that emerge. There will be a shared lunch each day and we will have an indoor base in 2 locations (in Midsomer Norton and Radstock) where we will meet at the start of each day\, can leave belongings and spend time in wet weather. \nYou will finish the week with new learning\, a certificate\, and full of the joy and energy that comes from being in a companionable and non-judgemental group with a positive shared focus. \nCourse Timings: 9:30 – 15:00 \nCourse Dates: \n\n Monday 1st September\n Tuesday 2nd September\n Wednesday 3rd September\n Thursday 4th September\n Friday 5th September\n\nThe week will be spent outdoors whenever possible\, covering all the sites in the SVR project and spending time in each reflecting\, learning\, exploring and connecting. Individual needs and wishes will be considered\, and day plans made collectively to support everyone’s comfort including anyone with restricted mobility. \nShared lunch of salad\, cheese\, breads\, chutneys etc provided\, or feel free to bring your own/ other items to share. \nContent: \n\nIdentification; wildlife\, habitats\, foraging\, medicine\, food and folklore of the land – experiential and non traditional learning\nPersonal development; practices to evolve understanding of what you are interested in / feel drawn to do\nCommunity structures and processes; statutory and VCSE in the area\nReflection/ group discussions on current/ future needs and possibilities.\nHealth & Safety\, safeguarding\, risk assessment.\n1:1 mentoring / 30 minute session\n\nGuest sessions tbc \nWe particularly want to encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds including but not limited to people of colour\, people with disabilities i.e. physical disability\, chronic illness\, mental health conditions. SUMMARY:Tai Chi in Midsomer Norton Town Park
DESCRIPTION:A summer Tai Chi course for people interested in trying something new! Taking place at the Midsomer Norton Town Park. This course is led by an experienced Tai Chi instructor\, Bruce. \nAll abilities are welcome. \nBruce will be teaching the ‘Ba Men’ (which translates as 8 Gates). This is a short sequence of 8 moves which train the basic principles or energies of Tai Chi. \nThe moves of the Ba Men are fairly easy to learn – at the start\, as one learns the movements the practice is gentle\, opening the joints\, building a more connected body etc but it can also be practised in a way that’s much harder and while one is still moving slowly it provides much more of a workout – so it can be tailored to the needs of those attending without the need to teach different things to different people. \nWe will be meeting at the Midsomer Norton Town Park Amphitheatre\, Gullock Tyning\, Midsomer Norton\, Radstock\, BA3 2UH. \nPlease arrive in time for a prompt 10:00 am start. \nThis class is for adults only. \nClass timings; \n10:00am – 11:15am \nClass dates; \nTuesday 8th July\nTuesday 15th July\nTuesday 22nd July\nTuesday 29th July\nTuesday 5th August\nTuesday 12th August\nTuesday 19th August\nTuesday 2nd September\nTuesday 9th September\nTuesday 16th September \nPlease book in advance for the course as spaces are limited. \nPlease contact Phoebe at somervalleyrediscovered@bathnes.gov.uk if you have any questions or accessibility needs.
